Most countries in the world have adopted Hanyu Pinyin as standard Romanization system for Mandarin Chinese. Before Hanyu Pinyin became the most common Romanization system, Wade Giles was widely used, and systems like Mandarin Phonetic Symbols (MPS) and Tongyong Pinyin exist in Taiwan. The variety of existing Romanization systems often causes confusion. This file here shows conversion tables comparing Hanyu Pinyin with Wade Giles, MPS and Tongyong Pinyin.
